Beginnings

Beginnings

A Poem by Chris717
"

For my musician.

"

Babe I’m sure you already know
It seems we move so fast and then so slow
How time it turns with sleight of hand
In the moments we don't understand

I see it in your soft, blue eyes
Long, brown lashes, no surprise

So I've written for, not about for you
I hope you know the difference too
How I feel a certain sentiment
A longing for your reverence

And this is the beginning, no not the end

With hearts and minds that slowly mend

We're just some wayward drinks, we're long, cold nights
Two careful beings of a familiar sight

With familiar things that we both know

It makes me wonder what you'll show

And if you were whiskey, I was wine

Intoxicating yet we asked for this time
and time I have so much of
but I'm not some fool who is in love

Though you tap along my paler skin
To give a start that’s from within

When touch and taste and sound collide
I've come along, I'm for this ride

And this is the beginning, no not the end

With hearts and minds that slowly mend

This is the beginning, no not the end

With hearts and minds that slowly mend

I've listened to your selfless songs
Thinking how the rhythm follows us along
With a quiet and familiar sound
A brighter passion that I've found

Where I get these little thoughts of you
Like how you smile and what you do
No, I am not a fool who is in love
But you make me question if that's true

So I've written for, not about for you
I hope you know the difference too
How I feel a certain sentiment
A longing for your reverence

And this is the beginning, no not the end

With hearts and minds that slowly mend

It's just, you've got this god damn look
I'd be lying to say it’s not got me shook
Don't think it is, coz I'm in love
But if you say I'm what you're thinking of
Because maybe I would like to be
To be in love with someone who's in love with me

This is the beginning. no not the end

With hearts and minds that slowly mend
