Minnesotan's Paradise

Minnesotan's Paradise

A Poem by John Fredrick Carver
"

In Northern Minnesota one dreams of southern climes even in summer when paradise is lost even to Bermuda and California I presume.

"

When the water is up past your navel, the temp just right,

The sun behind gray, misty looking clouds,

And Cal gone swimming with the kids in spite

Close your eyes and dream of Bermuda crowds

Grilled Porterhouses and pineapple drinks,

Suntanned beauty’s suntanned … well escape

To places the mind knows it is where it thinks

Every single thing changing even your shape

Morphing reality’s California days

To a single day of childhood recalled

Where a realer Minnesota swimmer lays

A blanket a ground and his body soon sprawled …

Damn sand in his ears how does it get in there?

Nearly drowning his meditations … he needs more air!

Very good, I like the way so much imagery is packed into such a wonderful poem. The following from the poem is my favorite "To places the mind knows it is where it thinks".
