Death Row

Death Row

A Poem by C J Reilly

I stand here in this concrete square
With wire mesh all around
I'm just a lonely puppy dog
Who’s stuck here in the pound
I don’t know what I ever did
That my humans thought so wrong
I've always been a good girl
I've been stuck in here so long
People come and look at me
They pause then walk on by
Every time they walk away
It makes me want to cry
I only have two more days
To find my forever home
If no one comes to save me
I will die here all alone
I promise to behave myself
To be loyal, faithful and true
I’ll never ever let you down
I'm the perfect dog for you
