Holding On

Holding On

A Poem by Chong N. Kim
"

It's about holding on in recovery from pain, addiction, loss and even our own victimization.

Holding On

Your life is hanging by a thread;
Not knowing,
What will be the end result...

Only change in your pockets,
and nothing with which to feed your baby...

You're in despair,
Hopelessness resounding in your eyes...
No matter the fate
something tells you to hang on....

Kneeling down to pray,
Pleading for God to hear your voice.
You cry out, but silence echoes the only response...

Close your eyes,
And imagine
That an angel
Is near you.

Hold on to that last breath,
knowing that you must for your soul to carry on...

Nothing is ever easy and the risk is worth everything...
Just follow your heart and trust in the angel
who will guide you on your path.

Once the drugs have departed your body and mind
think clearly once again...
Afraid of reality because the pain is just too much....

Yearning for intoxication
Aching from the suffering,
But little do you know
the ones that loved you vanish into the past...

As you long for your next break,
the one that unites the puzzle,
deep inside, the longing to escape
the misery which for years plundered your spirit.

You try so hard yet its not enough;
running away as the problems surmount...

Having arrived in a cold dark hotel room,
alone and afraid, taking one last shot; to dream of a life you never had...

Just hold on a little longer for it may not seem so bad;
once you get there, overcome, little by little, your fear....

Accept the new change that will allow your heart to feel, once again;
Through the pain you can become stronger.
Cry no more; perceive something you never had,

a love that only you can possess.
