Don't tell me

Don't tell me

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

Don’t Tell Me

You see my name in the papers:
Boldness threatens you;
your slander is without remorse.
How dare you accuse me of lying!
Where was my accuser when I was chained in the dark room?
Did you wipe the flow of tears?
Which drowned me in my thoughts of being selected?
Did you witness the innocent children?
Whose dreams were shattered?
As they were paraded before the ultimate desecration of their souls?
Were you present?
as mouth watering perpetrators
bought our way to the chopping block?
People, enchanted by the perilous lights
which illuminated the streets,
Underneath their feet we were blinded
to the world which existed
The world of our pain and suffering,
the world they never saw.
Therefore, I ask you, "Where were you?"
"My accuser,
Have you had to disassociate your body from your soul
in a desperate attempt to cling to sanity
while your dignity was being stripped by merciless predators?
Spare me the mockery if your answer is, "No."
I give you the floor to satisfy your ego!
My anger is reflected in the hurt
which you have inflicted on the victims
and their stories of which I speak out.
"I Lied?"
Ten years passed before I could reveal my story;
I could no longer live with myself knowing
Many suffered in unspeakable silence.
"Why so long in coming forth?" you ask....
Contemplate this question in the depths of your shallow existence.
