Ms. Fish

Ms. Fish

A Poem by Colette LaDuke

Ducks are pretty neat

"

Ms. Fish
by: Colette LaDuke and Lydia Ramey

Under the mysterious murky water,

swims a cute little rainbow fish.

scales glint and gleam beneath

the dark green surface;

unlike the crystal clear tank

where goldfish reside.

Up on Abel’s hill,

friends and family gather round;

toes slowly reach the pond’s edge

they cast their lines,

hooks break the water's surface.

the children wait patiently

Ms fish surfaces for an afternoon snack

children squeal,

as the bobber disappears.

chaos is in the air as

Ms. fish’s lip pains her

she is forcefully removed

from her home under water

the surface dwellers are filled

with delight and excitedly run home

In the kitchen momma cooks,

crispy, fluffy hush
puppies.

The children run through

the front door

overjoyed by their success

Momma makes them wash their hands.

she takes Ms. fish and begins to wash and gut her

pop pop pop goes the oil in the pan;

they set the table

and say their prayers.

The end to a perfect day
