Midnight Storm

Midnight Storm

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Lightning cracks the sky

Everything is quiet.

Then somewhere in the distance

A low rumble

Rolling over and over

Like a wave crashing over white sands.

But I’m safe

The lightning doesn’t scare me.

It’s calming

Standing in the kitchen

Watching silver fingers claw the dark sky.

Rain pelts the window

Bounces off metal

Tink, tink, tink.

Like tears

Collecting in puddles and

Running down the road

Small streams of silver.

Sitting in front of the fire

Golden flames

Dancing to silent music.

Listen to the steady pitter-patter

Like little feet

Running across paved floor.

The clouds roll away

Revealing a bright sky.

A new day

A beautiful beginning

A beautiful end.

The storm is over.
