Eclipsed

Eclipsed

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Your shadow holds me,

I can’t escape.

Free me

I plead.

And you laugh

Because

Why should you

Release me?

When you could

Keep me in

Darkness

Forever...

I close my eyes

Against

The coldness

That surrounds me.

But it’s still there.

You're still there.

I try to stand

But my legs buckle,

I can’t hold the weight,

Can’t hold

Myself.

This is what

You have done to me

I whisper.

Your hard smile

Is hung with

Blade sharp

Icicles

To match the cold

Frozen heart

You hold in

Your chest

No

You reply

Your voice

Sickeningly like velvet

You did this

To yourself

And you hold the

Mirror.

The truth.

In front of

My face

Take a look.

Your voice now

Is a knifes edge

And I look.

Your frozen features

Stare back at me.

Horrified.

Your face.

My face.

The hollowed cheeks,

Too sharp cheekbones.

The dead skull,

The thin blue skin,

Clinging fleshless

To bone.

I am you.

You are me.

I fall away

Turn away

Shy away

Run away

Just get away

Away from you

Away from myself

But there’s no escape

From your shadow

Because we are

The same.

And where I am

You are.

Where you are

I am.

In your shadow.

In the darkness.

Eclipsed.
