Mothers

Mothers

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

You gave us life, held

Us safely beneath your skin,

Your blood in our veins.

You gave us smiles, your

Kiss dispersed our nighttime fears,

Your arms formed our shield.

Now you watch us leave

Dispersing as we begin

Our own lives alone.

One day we’ll return,

And we’ll kiss your eyelids

As we say goodbye.

And we’ll clutch your hand

Once more the grasping children

Who cannot let go.

And you’ll smile on us

And so give us that strength, that

We so often lacked.
