Watch The Dust

Watch The Dust

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

Fabric beneath fingertips

Thumbs pulsing with blood.

With a breath, a ragged intake,

I pull back the curtains

Let the light flood in.

For a moment

I am blinded, the world

Turns white.

As eyes adjust, I look at you

You’ve got yours shut

The light warm on your face.

It makes shadows.

When you open your eyes

Your pupils are pinpricks

Against a sea of blue-green iris.

You stare blindly into

The light.

We are still

And watch the dust,

Particles that rise and tumble

Silver slivers

In a fall of gold.
