Thus We Sat In The Dark And Waited To Dream

Thus We Sat In The Dark And Waited To Dream

A Poem by Cassidy Mask
"

Had a lecture yesterday about Palaeolithic Art. This i guess spawned from one of the theories...

"

In the pitch black

And the silence

Things move.

It makes no difference

Eyes open or shut.

All is blackness

Except…

Except

There is something. Some things.

Shapes move

Bodies shifting in the tight space.

You do not see them

You… perceive…

You know without

The slightest hint of doubt

That they are there.

And yet…

There is no light

To see by

But you watch

Their breath cloud

Around hot, wet

Lips and noses.

You watch huge feet

Paw the ground.

All is silent

Yet you listen to

Them chew, teeth grinding,

Listen to the scuffle

Of dirt beneath

Broad soles.

In the pitch black

You watch their heads

Turn, eyes fixed on you.

You listen to the huff of their breathing…

Useless eyes widen as it becomes your own.
