Skin Feathers Fire

Skin Feathers Fire

A Poem by Cassidy Mask

The butterflies poured from our

Lips, bodies wriggling,

Fluttering, gasping.

Swarming they sought the air.

We wanted to be free

And our wings

Tore where they met.

Yet with each gasping breath

We found ever bluer sky

We poured forth

From skin to feathers

From lips we surged into sky

Swollen in our bliss

A great form of shifting light,

And when we reached the night

We burned like the stars.
