Small Time Boy

Small Time Boy

A Poem by cynicalbeliever
"

Written in memory of a dear friend of mine.

"

(Verse 1)

I remember when we first met,

It's something I'll never forget,

I was down,

You was there,

I remember how you did your hair.

You took my hand,

Made me smile,

You said,

'Let's stay here for a while'.

We talked,

All night,

We didn't even stop for morning light.

And you left,

As I smiled,

And we said we'd see each other,

We'd see each other again.

(Chorus)

The way you face your fear,

You made it so clear,

But you will never see,

What you mean to a small time boy,

A small time boy like me.

(Verse 2)

As the months passed,

We grew,

As the months passed,

We battled through,

Our fears,

Our depression,

Our demons,

And our tears.

I remember when I told you,

That I'd fallen for a girl,

Your smile told no lie,

You were so happy for me you started to cry.

And when it felt like I was  in no-mans land,

You were there,

To spiritually hold my hand.

(Chorus)

The way you face your fear,

You made it so clear,

But you will never see,

What you mean to a small time boy,

A small time boy like me.

(Verse 3)

You told me you had to move away,

But our friendship would always stay,

Intact till the very end,

You wanted me to be happy and not pretend.

So we linked our arms one last time,

As we recited our little rhyme,

We parted ways,

A smile,

on your face.

When I met the one I love,

You said it was a message from above,

And when we got engaged,

You said you'd be here always,

always.

(Chorus)

The way you face your fear,

You made it so clear,

But you will never see,

What you mean to a small time boy,

A small time boy like me.

(Verse 4)

You needed my hand,

My reply was oh so bland,

I remember the day of that call,

The day you ended it all.

I felt like I was perspiration,

Inside I was suffocating,

To this day I can't shake the blame,

If it was me you wouldn't have done the same.

I see you in my dreams at night,

But in the darkness you still provide a light,

You're now a tattoo on my arm,

To me it's an eternal charm.

(Chorus)

The way you face your fear,

You made it so clear,

But you will never see,

What you mean to a small time boy,

A small time boy like me.

The way you faced your fear,

You made it so damn clear,

But you could never see,

What you meant to a small time boy,

A small time boy like me.

People might not like it or think it's crap but to me it's probably the most important song i've ever wrote.

Aww, I didn't expect the ending to turn out that way! How sad. But it was very cute and heartfelt. :) I could tell it was written genuinely.
