Bang

Bang

A Poem by Leo M. Zeac
"

A boy gets a hold of a gun, believing it to be a toy.

"

Wild West winds, hot and sandy

A sly boy, who’s one fine dandy

Like his daddy, his gun is handy

Age so young, the Devil’s candy

Grassy knoll, bullets rest in the gun

Little sister in view, it’s all for fun

Mother’s away, absent from her son

He points the barrel, she can’t run

The young damsel, with her doll

Grins so ornery, her name he’ll call

Ignorance at fault, a blissful wall

The trigger clicks, both of them fall

Tragic sound, disturbed the peace

Hot bullet fired, her heart will cease

He’s kicked, she drops to her knees

The deadly accident, that no one sees

Silent ’til seen, mother’s cry of distress

Race to the fallen, weeps over the mess

“Oh Lord!” she cries, “Not her, not this!”

The girl is gone, but the boy did confess…

“Bang.”
