To a passed cat

To a passed cat

A Poem by Christian Morrow
"

To my cat that died

"

I’m so glad I had a chance to know you,

Even if it was only a fleeting time.

I know in my heart that each passing moment

Brings me closer to a day when

I will no longer recall you winking at me,

Or the feeling of your fur on my face,

Or the feeling of running your tail through my fingers,

And what, my dear cat, will you be then

If not a memory?

We walked together for a while,

Until you had to stop, and I to continue

And as I went further away, you grew smaller,

Until I could no longer see you

Over the curve of the horizon

And gone was all evidence that the ground beneath our feet

Was on the same planet, in the same time,

And I know that even if I could turn and run back,

I would find only a warm patch of grass

Where you sat and watched me go.
