The End of My World as I Know It

The End of My World as I Know It

A Poem by Conrad Wrobel
"

Moving away to college inspires some intense emotions. Partially inspired by "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

"

The end is drawing near,

The the flame to its wick,

Shadows falling upon shadows,

blackening out the moonlight.

Wisps trail out from the darknesss,

remains of my lost knowledge,

Scattered among the fuselage -

my broken dreams and

shattered visage.

"I am Ozymandias, king of kings."

Look on my grave, ye mortals,

and despair.

The end decreases in length

and increases in proximity.

A lonesome ember floating on the winds of change.

A single powder keg in the sands of time.

What are the chances...

:) I really like this piece. Thank you so much for entering my contest. I love the feeling this piece gives a reader- a feeling of despair, wonder, and curiosity that just penetrates into the soul. This is really great! thanks again for entering the contest.

What a wonderful sense of foreboding and dread, mixed in with a bit of anxiety. You make one feel keenly here, and that is what poetry is all about. Well done.
