Modern Art

Modern Art

A Poem by Consuela Burke

Modern art is great
Not for its technique
But for its intentions.
Not the work you see but
What has gone unmentioned

The excellent type of painting
Is the only way to make
A candle look like it's really melting
But why the final line there
And beneath it only blue?
What informed the decision
Blue was through?

The answer is you don't, I think
Decide where blue is over
It's all intuition.
You know when blue
begins to cover
Instead of shape the vision
