Disperser

Disperser

A Poem by Consuela Burke

A single wolf is a disperser
Not outcast or redundant
But a crucial carrier
With an important role
For wolves as a whole

We imagine him with no way back
Surviving only for returning
Roaming the outskirts of his natal pack
Alert, ears pert, and yearning

In fact, there is no wolf exile
Called by the wild
To diversify the next generation
They are content between lives
And enjoy the transition

While you see purgatory
All he seeks
Is to express himself fully
Somewhere new.
The wolf is not alone,
But you.
