A Poem by Austin

Stars and city lights alike,

The shinings of nature and civilization,

Shineth down unto her beauty's form,

And, like sunbeams on crystal waters,

Reflect from the curvature of her spectacles

The insights of her wonder.

Her atmosphere is captivating,

The air surrounding her pulchritude sophisticated,

Yet so subtly so as to hide the cause,

Astounding the hearts and dazzling the minds of her company.

And, yet, she remains casual,

Her sweet humor and diction reflecting the times,

Her stance youthful and arm outstretched,

Revealing a hand worth giving refuge

When its owner should so lose courage.

This hand is worth more than it receives.

Yet the fact remains that it is not my hand to hold.

While my eyes are dazzled by the beauty of hers,

I hold no right to look through them into her soul,

To view the sights and wonders there.

Wish and envy as I may, the matter is such:

My titles grant me no position here.

My wishes grant me no permissions I do not have.

My fantasies grant me no right.

And yet I know I love her.

Author's Note

Austin
I realize "sights" in the second-to-last paragraph could be "sites," but this wording was no oversight by me. As for the name of the poem, consider this- it is not only the diction which reflects classical works, but also, keep in mind that both classical and modern emotions are the same in essence, and love is the most important of the emotions, regardless of the period of the play.
