Brain vomit (2)

Brain vomit (2)

A Poem by Cricket
"

the doubts of a seventeen year old whose brain is too old

"

certain. too certain

                      does he ever doubt?

is he ever scared?

he doesn't let on much

but his slow grin speaks volumes.

"i think you know what it means"

inspirational quotes laud that "leap of faith"

but what if that's just dumb?

what if really, your toes just peek over the edge

of whatever it is one leaps from

and are terrified of the drop?

what if really, the vertigo is too much

makes your eyesight turn f*****g cartwheels

and your acids churn and your head

        inflate

                with helium?

what if it's not about leaping?

what if its about inching along? cautious?

bet that didn't occur to juliet.

some girl i am, some lover.

the sex appeal of a doubting thomas

was never so apparent as this.

I really like the way you've condensed a real sense of your quandary into this poem. The image and metaphor of the "toes just peek(ing) over the edge" is great too.

I look forward to reading more of your work.
