Mateo was going to the beach where he had met Desi. He had walked over to the edge of the trees when he saw someone lying in the sand by the water. Who is that? He thought as he got closer to the figure that was lying there. He sat down and put a hand on the other male’s chest to see if he was breathing. He was, but if Mateo didn’t get him to shelter soon he was going to die. The shorter male started to open his eyes and he gazed up at Mateo’s face. “Where am I?” He asked weakly. “The Mayda island, it’s not safe out in the open. So I’m going to take you to my cottage.” Mateo replied. “Okay.” He picked up the shorter male and carried him into the woods toward his cottage. “What’s your name?” Mateo asked, trying to keep the other awake so he could make sure he was alright. “Caleb.” He said slowly then passed out in his arms. When Caleb woke up Mateo had already carried him to his cottage and was lying on a cot that was in the corner. Mateo was sitting beside him, caring for him as a grandma would care for a sick child. “Who are you?” Caleb asked, panic filling every bone in his body. “My name is Mateo.” He replied. Caleb slowly tried to sit up wincing in pain as needles shot through his stomach. “Lie back down. You’re going to hurt yourself more.” Mateo told him. So Caleb lay back down and relaxed, passing out once more.
