Unique

Unique

A Poem by Dan James

Why do we pride ourselves on being unique?

Is it because of a sense of accomplishment?

Or euphoria being injected into our brains?

Sometimes, being unique is bad.

But why is that?

If we truly are unique,
And if everyone is truly different,
Then why discriminate at all?

Is it a sense of pride?

A lack of respect?

Something to do to replace the blank space in your mind?

It could be those things.

But it also could be because we aren't unique.

Yes, we all love different foods.

Different objects and styles and preferences.

But eventually, you meet someone.

You meet someone who likes the things you like.

And then you're not so unique anymore.

Life moves on, and you meet more people.

People who have the same hobbies as you.

You're not truly unique. Only part.

That's not a bad thing.

Until you realize this.

Until you get jealous.

Jealous of the people who don't realize.

That's where discrimination comes in.

When you realize you're not unique.

That you're just a someone in the sea of people.

This isn't meant to discourage you.

To admit defeat and surrender to the masses.

But to give motivation.

Break the chain.

Be the someone who is unique.

Be as unique as you can.

That's the only way you'll be remembered in this world.

This fast-paced world of information.

Be the one piece of information people want to look back on.

That they want to keep researching and learning about.

The first step towards doing that is being yourself.

Have an open heart.

Be nice.
It's hard,

But I believe in you.

Good luck.
