Don't Worry

Don't Worry

A Poem by Dan James

Your eyes shine in the light

of the setting sun.

My fingers glide over

your soft skin.

The feeling in my heart

is indescribable.

My eyes can't stop looking

at your beautiful face.

I would do anything for you.

I want you to be happy.

When I left,

it almost broke my heart.

I wanted to call you immediately.

To hear your voice again.

Halfway home, I see a car

on the road with me.

It's swerving left,

then right,

then left,

then right,

then into me.

My tire instantly gave out.

Then it rolls,

and rolls,

and rolls,

and rolls,

me rolling with it.

I come to a dead stop.

The glass conceived.

Something stabbed my heart.

It hurts,

but I knew you would help me.

You took my heart before

and mended it,

fixed it,

and kept it.

I reach for my phone,

it took all the strength I had.

I opened it up,

and saw you in the background.

Smiling at me.

That smile was only for me.

The messaging app was open.

My dreary eyes stare at our conversations.

That's when I knew I couldn't do it.

If you found out I was hurt,

you would be so sad.

I don't want you to be sad.

All I ever wanted

is to make you happy.

To keep you happy

for as long as I can.

"Home" I typed.

It was a lie.

But a lie that would make you happy.

To keep you happy

for as long as I can.

You don't need to worry.

To worry about me.

Don't worry about me.

You're far more important,

than me.

Don't worry.
