Young Love

Young Love

A Poem by Cynthia Gelinas

Deep down inside here somewhere

I know I’m just trying to get by

Broken hearts don’t mend to easily you know

You keep telling me you’re waiting

As long as it takes for me to come around

But we’re so young and so unsound

Its scary to think you love me

Distance is just an obstacle

That loves getting in our way

Perhaps if I could hold you close

Then I’d know you’d stay

But I don’t think my heart can take this

Not with you so far from me

It just wouldn’t be fair

Yet you don’t care

Its scary to think you love me

We gave “us” a chance before

To find out if it was something more

Than just a silly feeling

Teenage hormones tend to play with us like that sometimes

But we took our chance

And fell apart

I know how much I broke your heart

When I said goodbye

It’s scary to think you love me

There’s some things in life I can’t quite face

I’m still trying to find my place

Amiss this big old world

But if by chance we really are meant to be

Then it’ll work out. I know

Until then I think it’s best if we both just go

I want to be sure of what love is

Because it’s scary to think you love me

Somehow I’m sure we’re gonna find a way

You highlight my every day

And make me smile like nothings wrong

I can’t deny you mean a lot to me

But I push you from my mind all the time

Love is a big word for someone as young as us

Yet part of me is just dying to say it back

To let you love me like no one else can

Because it’s not so scary to think you love me
