i awoke, gasping for air

i awoke, gasping for air

A Poem by Ben Taylor

sunlight trickles through
the morning mist as
spring stretches her
dew-dropped arms,
reaching for the warmth
we have all been denied
these past months.

i am ready to breathe again.

my heart aches for the
growth, the green,
the scent of hope
on an early april morning.

shallow breathing,
keep your eyes forward,
don't let your lip tremble,
don't let your chest shake.

it's time to let the sobs out,
it's time to let the sun back
into your room,
back into your bed.

let the little broken boy
breathe again,
dig him up,
and put your pieces
back together.
