Back to the Moon

Back to the Moon

A Poem by James Loggins
"

When I wrote this poem, I heard that our country is probably going to send another man to the Moon. And it made me think back on what we did to go to the Moon.

"
It's been I don't know how many years
Since President John F. Kennedy said:
We should send a man to and from the Moon safely
This quote is still in my head
Even though he died too soon
To see his vision come to a reality
We did send a man to the Moon
His name was Neil Armstrong
And he was the one
Who made it all happen
Because of him this country won
Against the Russians in the space race
I sometimes catch myself looking up at the Moon
As it sits shining in the night sky
And think of all the people who made it happen
And of all the people who had to die
So we could make it to that place
And when I am done looking up
I have a look of wonder on my face
When I wonder: When will we go back to the moon?
