If I Could...

If I Could...

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

self-deprecating complaint

"

If I Could

If I could

Envision

A future

If I could scoff

With derision

When the door shuts

When the mind blanks

When the way out

Smells like a U-turn

If I could kick

The fatigue

Monkey off my back

As far as Albuquerque

Give me enough time

To stretch my mind

If I could stop

This two bit

Complaining

Like a hangnail

Forging

The end of the world

I’d be good.
