Road To Oblivion

Road To Oblivion

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

Sociopolitical Poem about the level of civil discourse in America

"

Road to Oblivion

Blankety blank

The rank stank of unwashed lies

Is it wise?

Is it compromise?

Is it anything but flies

Gumming up the ointment

Translucent wings

Flashing disappointment?

Can’t tell if the groundswell

Are silent hordes

Finding their voice

Or loudmouth sideshows

Framing their choice.

Big lies repeated

Into truthiness

Colbert goofiness

Not withstanding

We believe

Therefore we are

Gullible as newborn

Hayseeds

Seeking purchase

On tile floors

Growing fat not tall

If we grow at all

With roots shallow

As the air patch

Between notebook sheets

Thoughts callow

Sucking the marrow

From civil discourse

Till our conversations

Are only crumpled bones

Sideswiped to a ditch

Moldering in the pitch

Along the road

To oblivion.

I want to copy so many lines that I adore in your poem, but then it would be the whole poem. Love the title too. thanks for writing.
