Hay Seeds

Hay Seeds

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

agricultural allegory?

"

Hay Seeds

Hay seeds

Before they germinate

Know nothing of the world

Just lie in wait

For someone to

Plant them in fertile soil

Let them reach for

The promised sky

Grow tall and rich

With nutrients

‘bout which they’ve never heard

But feed the horses anyway

They don’t have time to learn,

Cut down in the prime of life

Or the end of their season

Finally hoping

that a few of their children

Take the germ of life

Add soil and water

And grow healthy and tall.
