Pitter Patter Too Soon

Pitter Patter Too Soon

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

teen pregnancy

"

Too soon, too soon

the pitter patter of baby feet

to a girl not sixteen

there’s no in between

no proud grandpa moment

just angry contortions

decisions, discussions

crumpling up the welcome mat

before the first step

the first cry

the first anything he or she can try

what’s the point of this

or anything really

nothing to do

nothing feels healing

we are reeling

hung from the ceiling

embarrassed, shame faced

our whole world disgraced

not the way to walk into the world

no trumpets with banners unfurled

just harsh drums

recriminations

innocence failed

her life derailed

the lies and their consorts have sailed.
