The Writer Fights

The Writer Fights

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

A challenge entry for Writers, Prizefighters & Caffeine Inspired All Nighters

"

The Writer Fights.

In blackest night, the writer fights

His eyes propped open wide

By toothpicks hid inside

A caffeine courtesy ride.

He types, finger tips charge rips

Of vitriol and tenderness

Through keyboard taps

To Ethernet wilderness

The poet yawns and blinks

Exhaustion on the brink

But still the fingers tap and rip

Out words of measured vision trips

When at last he taps the last

Words of nightly epitaph

Of images the day time brings

That he must cry or sing

Head leans down on keys of darkest gray

Eyes closed on dreams of yesterday

Awaits the images tomorrow calls

As once more his fingers tap and fall.

David!
I liked this: "but still the fingers tap and rip
out words of measured vision trips"
This is a cascade of words and it flows soooo self-confident!
Thank you for sharing with me.

Awesome, you got it down just like it is. We will even write in our sleep, always pushing the envelope. I love poetry about writers, it inspires me and helps me realize I'm not alone in the wee hours hammering away at the keys. Second and third stanzas kick a*s! love it!
