For What We Have Become

For What We Have Become

A Poem by Donald Cole

I see reality behind your eyes

The way you walk away

The subtle truth is stepping out

In how little it is you say

I see your world has changed a bit

And thus so has mine

I say that it'll be all right

Just not sure it will be fine

Could I catch you thinking of me

Nah, it's just a dream

Especially if there is nothing I could do

Is just what it may seem

Does it even matter at all?

For what we have become.
