The Glimmering Post

The Glimmering Post

A Poem by Donald Cole
"

Where I am

"
The Glimmering Post

I was looking at the glimmering post
It couldn’t be too far
And I reflect upon the days that past
Still wondering where you are
The seasons of my love did change
As I fall into my world
Or so I thought anyway,
I was being hurled

I dreamt a time or two before
I still don’t know that could be
I’m reaching to the forest floor
That where I’ll find me
I’ll kneel for a little while
And I’ll praise your Holy Name
Then I’ll say I love You so,
looking back what I know
For I know I’ve always felt the same
I’m glad I’m only passing through
How silly to hang on to anything, here
For I’ll let my world go on without me
Mine eyes yet set upon You, so clear
This world where everything changes
Everything but a little hope is gone
What’s left of me, is what you always did see
I feel Your love carry me ------------------on
I was looking at the glimmering post
Looking for the strength I hold inside
And I’ll feel that world falling away
My fears beginning to subside
And the glimmering post could take me
So many different way
And as I grow I learn some more
It just gets in my way
And I get to feel,
what the world would steal
Were it not for You in my heart right now
I look to see, who I am to be
I need You to show me how
And I grow a little older
And my hope is my strength today
There’s that glimmering post again
And now I’m close enough to say
And I whisper loud enough to feel the words
‘It’s not you I needed at all
For when mine eyes are looking to you
I find me stumbling, I fall'
I pretend to know where I’m going
There’s so little room for me
And again I find, in my clouded mind
Sometimes I just, ONLY -get to be
And that glimmering post fades for a while
And my thoughts return to You
And I get to think about me again
And I’m learning to follow through
And I get to say ‘your beautiful’
Though I really don’t feel that way, I sigh
And You who gave all I need to grow,
I look upon to face my truth
You wiped the teardrops from my eye.
So now the time has come to pass
And all is laid to waste
From burning years and burning tears
Of a life that’s lived post haste
And I know that You have given me
And will meet my every need
And my world crying ‘it’s beautiful’
Will turn into just a seed
Leaving nothing left behind for doubt
And a vision of when You comes to call
And letting go is the only way
That I’ll keep my world at all
In my life I’ve come to realize
Learning through all my years
My lessons that prepare me
Come through my trail of tears
And the emptiness inside me
Only sometimes filled with love
Does come to me, when I look to Thee
My God in heaven above.
So a shadow of my smile does fall
On the glimmering posts left behind
My dream comes true,
just from knowing you
The glory of your presence defined
