I'll Let You Write the Story

I'll Let You Write the Story

A Poem by Donald Cole

I’ll Let You Write the Story

I think of You every day

And I try to find Your will

I’d like to keep me out of it

But I’m in the way still

I pray to You when I wake

I talk to You each day

And I fall short so many times

As I lose my way

You see, I’m a stubborn one

And it takes control of me

Little by little I’m learning

That only You can set me free

There are these things I’m missing

As I sit here all alone

Then I hear the voice of reason

Not the voice I’ve always known

I listen oh so softly

If You could understand

This life that I’m going through

Well, it’s not what I planned

Now I’ll let You write the story

And it’s scary don’t You see

Yet I know I can’t do it anymore

Let me give my life to Thee

I don’t always wear these shoes

So Lord, please take the lead

And so much in my thoughts each day

Let it be Your voice I heed

And I don’t have the answers

Sometimes I don’t know what to do

So once more I’m at the altar

To give my life to You
