A Requiem for Love

A Requiem for Love

A Poem by DeLisa

For so long I’ve waited

Sitting here in my Chuck Taylors

With my hair pulled back

A smile on my face

Heart on my sleeve

Anticipating

Longing

For the one called “Love”

To come and sweep me off my feet

Rescue me

But so long I’ve waited in vain

For the one called “Love” never came

Not the real one, anyway

Imposters have come

Been exposed

Stole away in the dark of night

Like the anti-Christ trying to make me believe the hype

But hype is hype and lies are lies

And I’ve given up

‘Cause too hard I’ve tried

Only to be deceived, have the wool pulled over my eyes

By emotions disguised as the one called “Love”

Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing

Attempting to make me feel forever beholden

To them

But it’s not gonna work

I refuse to ever again be hurt

By someone or something disguised as the one called “Love”

So I will sing a requiem for Love

Say a eulogy for Love

Take one last look at Love

As it lays there, eyes staring towards the heavens

Watching God

Ashes to ashes

Dust to dust

And then I’ll bury Love

Along with all the hurt, pain, and broken trust

That has been poured on me

Unyielding, unmercifully

I will not cry for Love, though

Because you can’t mourn what you’ve never known

A beautiful and prohphetic tribute to Love - how can one feel for that which one has not truly known - although in this case I suppose you mean the Love in the way of a man or woman of your choosing for their is still family - an aunt, a mother, a grandmother or granddaddy who showed you these things or then you would not know what you were missing. This is truly a grand poem - one that should be shouted from the rooftops at a cafe - I think this would be a wonderful performed piece. I would that I could hear you read these words. Thank you.
Love and Light,

Girl, the emotions running through this piece was so real. You wrote in a way that someone can relate.we all want and crave love. It's human instinct. However, we can't give up. Love will always come our way in some form. Hold on your love is out there. A very good write, continue to do your thing.

I read this as a piece written to commemorate losing out on true love. But don't give up so soon; as someone once said;

'You gotta kiss a few toads, before you meet your handsome prince!

It's not 'Love' that's to blame, it's those just talking the word and not walking the talk. Great write, full on and creative.

An excellent, emotive share!

God's Blessing
