Dikeledi

Dikeledi

A Poem by Danelkahr

DIKELEDI

It was a day to bring happiness to our lives;

a day we all remember to be the best;

nobody knew what had happened but the owner was flying up in tears. Puzzled as we were,

we cried Dikeledi of joy and they all shouted

“di fihlile Dikeledi”.

They come with different smiles to cheer

 up the rosy cheeks that lights up as the sun goes down,

still Dikeledi went down the cheeks.

Pale and grey was how she looked

yet Dikeledi tsa gagwe di hlaba pelo ka lerumo.

Sitting ka go tshwara lehlagare a sheba bohlaba tsatsi,

and like hot oil in the pan they went down her cheeks.

With anticipation we watched as she

stops crying and said:

 ka nnete ke nna Dikeledi ebile mediro e a mpontsha.

Today Dikeledi tsa Mma Moloko wa Maela was born

and instead of being happy in her day

she cries, for her name plays a big role on her happiness.
