Who's Behind The Man In The Moon?

Who's Behind The Man In The Moon?

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

They say behind every good man

Is a great woman.

Then I must ask a simple question.

Who’s behind man in the moon?

Something so powerful

Must have a love to guide it

Through the clouds

Keeping it company

When no one is around

And giving it strength

To keep on lighting the way.

Yet when I look into the night

All I see is it surrounded by darkness

Doing it’s best not to feel

So used and alone

While all the stars keep their distance

And earth is nothing more then a job.

Could that really be the moon's destiny

Or am I looking at a reflection of me?

WOW...a very creative poem...to take an imaginary figure and apply a familar quote...your word choice is impeccable and your state of mind when writing is amazingly artistic...this poem displays your depth of thinking...the parallel you create between something as vast as the cosmos and human relationships reflects an intensity in your thoughts

"Must have a love to guide it
Through the clouds
Keeping it company
When no one is around
And giving it strength
To keep on lighting the way."...this is beautifully expressed

your title is very original which captured my attention and your use of language compliments the title very nicely...A VERY WELL WRITTEN POEM!

some cultures do believe a woman appears in the moon...depending on the moon's brightness there are 2 images...an old woman carrying sticks and a profile of a woman wearing a jeweled pendant...of course, it is the shadow of the craters that reflect these images....also, the Chinese believe there is a goddess of the moon or "a woman who lives on the moon"...as a matter of fact, Chang'e (not sure I spelled that right?) was mentioned by Apollo 11 before their landing

Are you, then? Reflections of our personalities are.... intriguing. Look deeper, and we'll find certain impossibilities. Even deeper, and we're bare naked. One does have to strip and reflect at least once in a lifetime.

'Yet when I look into the night

All I see is it surrounded by darkness

Doing it's best not to feel

So used and alone....'

I say this, 'No one is ever alone, in reality.' Though this poem is beautifully expressed, it is quite depressing to read of such poems as they are vastly being penned. Penned with such an urge to resolve a.... thirst, if I may. And whatever your thirst might be, may it be quenched in good time. I do not believe that one will ever be able to numb themselves against such strong feelings. Unless of course, the being is of a cold-blooded mentality of some sort. And even if they do, it is for a short period of time. Anyways, enough of my ponderings! I say that this is a great write!

You have craeted such depth in this piece, as you cause me to think of the nature of this universe. Almost as if each planet was placed in its necessary position. I agree without a doubt there is something that created our world almost as a womb for it earthly children. I really like the way you have ended bring this piece back to the feelings that the heavens evoke from within. ~ Judi :-)

Wow...amazing.

One of the best poems I've read on here recently-

And what a good point: Who's behind man in the moon?

Brilliant, I tell you. But you probably already knew that.

Well the sun of course, the sun makes the moon glow.
At least I know women make me glow.

I was impressed by the last line especially. It's so simple but it's so powerful, all of it coming to its final conclusion and heart wrenching thought.
Keep writing. :)

oh, wow, a great contemplative thought . . . I think the moon captured everyone's imagination last week. So much inspiration running free.

This is an original thought, that is what appeals to me Dale. And I guess your last line says it all. We always see reflections of ourselves in others and the moon is as good a thing as any. It basically gives us time to think deeply about the life we have been given. The idea as far as I'm concerned is not to waste that life on illusion and false love/hope...how do we make this happen? By taking a deliberate shot at changing thought patterns. I hope the sun shines brightly for you soon my friend, I really do.
Kudos for this very thought provoking piece of literature.
Helen :-)
