you never know

you never know

A Poem by dead poet 79

Never let the one you love
Slip through your fingers.
That is what her grandma
Always told her.
But, now that she is nearing
30, she thinks back
And wonders about all
The ones that she
Let slip away.
Was it all her fault?
Maybe, it just wasnt
To be.
She looks around
And all of her friends
Are getting married,
Some are even having babies.
She, lives alone,
In a one bedroom apartment
With her cat.
Works 50 hours a week
And has no time for herself.
So, sitting at home one
Friday night.
She decided that she wasnt gonna
Be alone on another Friday night.
Went to her closent
Found the most sexy
Semi-revealing outfit she could find.
Put on some make up
And made her way down to the local bar.
Went inside and made heads turn.
She sat alone at the bar and ordered a drink.
Not long after sitting down,
Three guys had come up to her
Offering to buy her drinks.
She, turned them down.
Didnt want to seem too desperate
Her first night out.
A few hours later,
A man came in and sat at the
Other end of the bar alone.
Immediatly attracted to him,
She was sure that he was
There waiting on someone.
After a hour of him sitting alone,
She motioned for the bartender to come over.
Asked if he knew anything about the man
Sitting alone.
Bartender had never seen him before.
He was drinking whiskey sours.
"Well, give him one from me."
The bartender sat the drink infront of the man
And pointed at Janice
While telling him she had
Bought the drink for him.
He tipped his glass to her,
And smiled as he took a sip.
Then turned and started to watch
The sporting event that was
On the t.v. behind the bar.
She thought she had blown it.
Did she act too fast?
Was he married, taken?
Gay?
She sat there another hour.
Still he sat alone.
"F**k it" she thought.
Got up
Went over to the guy
And told him that she
Had been sitting at the other end
Of the bar
Waiting on him to come over
And talk to her.
He was taken back.
They began to talk a lil.
Had a few more drinks,
And left to go back to his place.

It was a small apartment
Not that far from where
Janice lived.
Once in his apartment
He was shy no longer
Ripped off his and Janices clothes
And flung her onto his bed.
They began to make passionate love.
Last for what felt like hours.

The next morning Janice got up
And left
Went home without even asking for his number.

That monday morning at work
Janice walked into her office,
And a few of the guys where looking
At her and smiling real big.
She didnt know what was going on.
She got into her office and began to work.
A few moments later,
There was a knock at her door.
Her friend in the office Kathy came in
And closed the door behind her.
"Janice, what did you do this weekend?"
Not thinking anything about it
Told her good friend the story
About the man
And what occured in the bar.
Then Kathy went around to the
Other side of Janices desk
And began to type in a web address.
Janice was horrified at what she saw.
It, was her and the man from the bar
At his apartment,
In the most personal way.
She knew nothing of this.
Didnt know that there was a video camera on.

She called her lawyer.
But, there wasnt much he could do.
Janice couldnt remember where
He lived or where he worked.
Didnt get his number.

So, she was stuck.
With the night in her memory,
And the website.
That she began to fight
To have removed.
