Eyes that can't cry

Ears that can't listen

Hands that can't hold

Eyes that can't sleep

Ears that can't understand

Hands that can't warm

A heart that can't love

 

The eyes that can't

See, cry, or sleep

Have seen too much

Cried too long

Slept endlessly

 

The ears that can't

Hear, listen, or understand

Have heard too much

Listened too long

Understood endlessly

 

The hands that can't

Touch, hold, or warm

Have touched too many

Held too much

Warmed amply

 

The heart that can't

Feel, let go, or love

Has felt too much

Let go too often

Loved too carelessly

 

What have these

Eyes, ears, hands, and heart

Taken from you?
