Lame tunes

Lame tunes

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

Inspired by lazy rappers, talentless though smoking hot female singers, moronically childish country western and above all, predictable hipster folk bands.

"

Do new bands play guitars today
or do they slaughter cats
I quote the name of Jimmy Page
I get who the hell is that

At least most know who Hendrix was
and maybe good old Kieth
The man's a real life zombie show
What language does he speak

Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray
Eddie from Van Halen
Remember Slash don't say it's so
He's sober clean and shaven

Ziggy Stardust spiders from mars
Iggy and the Stooges
The Sex Pistols and Joy Division
Heavy weight influences

Public Enemy east coast posse
old school hip hop rap
NWA west coast gangsta
Now it's sell out crap

These kids today what can I say
They listen to any trash
They wouldn't know great music if it
shot cocaine up their a*s

So I'm getting old and cranky
as I shake my fist at youth
In my day music was better so
f**k off you little d****e

Author's Note

Baby Ricochet
NWA (Niggaz with attitude) caused one of the biggest ruckus at my house ever when I was a lad. As soon as my parents started hearing raps like "Crazy mutha fucka named ice cube/ in a gang called niggaz with attitude/ when I'm called off/ I got a sawed off/ squeeze the trigger and the bodies are hauled off' (NWA straight outta Compton) coming from my bed room they went ballistic. So like any kid I put on my headphones so I couldn't hear them. Mama didn't raise no fool

I could have written this lol, although I'd have Rollins and MacKaye up there, as well as a couple other people. I'm a bit of a musicphile, and by a bit, I mean if you get talking to me about music I wont shut up... it's kind of one of the most important things in my life and has been since forever. The truth is, every generation has it's mainstream s****y music that's passed off as art, when the truth is it's manufactured s**t made only for the profit of money. But if you look for it you can find music that is actually art today. Perhaps it's because I'm from Seattle where the weather is so bad we have nothing better to do than sit in our houses and play our guitars and pianos trumpets drums or whatever, but I firmly believe good music is still well and alive today you just can't find it on the radio.

Your very welcome
it was a different time, today's music has no soul or depth, you may find some new gems here and there, but they are few and far between, I can't remember the last time I sat down and listened to a full album, I tend to like maybe one or two songs off an album today because most bands and there music suck...well done Ric.

I'm afraid my folks and your folks felt the same way about our music (I never quite got the Heavy Metal sound - just too loud!) Part of the breaking away syndrome, I'm sure. The kids know we hate it so that makes it bad! (as in good, you know?)

It's a generational thing for sure
I often wonder who picks the songs that go on radio. Music tastes change over time, but this is the worst time for music in my opinion (if you can even call it that). Nice writing, almost journalistic

CCR were awesome. Thanks Tate
Ugh, I despise mainstream nowadays. I antagonize mainstream in general, I suppose.

wow, impressively put up and very creatively put too... it still so good to listen to the old rocks, timeless music makes good impressions... There are still some good music of today but it is not much like before...
expressive piece my friend...

I agree with your assessment of music today - though I think every generation goes through this regarding "their" music. I had to laugh at your note - in my house, my sister had bought a copy of "Disco Inferno" (it was 1976). She put it on full blast, and when the line "burn that mother down" came on, my mother flew up the stairs and tore that vinyl off the turntable. :)

Oh too bad ;(
I loved classic rock, and I get this. Me and my friends are rockers, and it's annoying listening to so much electro-pop influenced by folk (is that what's popular?). But I saw Arctic Monkeys last time they were in Philly. They chilled out a little, but they used to right some real bad a*s rock and roll. the kind that makes you feel like going home with blood on your work shirt.
