Play the Piper

Play the Piper

A Poem by Jessica Elaine Stevens [Faiteach]
"

At some point, the pick up lines start to repeat.

"
don't hate me because i see now what i'm worth
don't get angry
just because i won't give it up for free
they took me apart and strung me back together
or rather
they unbent all my dented pieces
and buffed away all my rusted faults
they changed the oil in my heart
and put brand new batteries behind my eyes
so that now, they even glow in the dark
i can't be bought
and i can't be owned
i can't be unwound by any hand
who wishes to dip his fingers into my spaces
my jaws spread for no man
and i will not be spoon-fed
the same flattery and ill-conceived devotion
which may have once fouled my perceptions
i am wiser
but no older
i am strong, made of iron
i am unbendable
i am courageous, golden hearted
i am incorruptible
i am beautiful
and i am no longer free.

I really like this. I can really relate to this. Im proud of my stance as well. Its comforting to know there are people with dignity out there. I liked the repetition as well. Keep sharing!

I like the repetition of the phrases that starts the last five lines of this poem. They show a progression that ties directly back to the experiences described in the opening of the poem. What I found interesting was the final line. What I would have expected was a statement of freedom. This line leaves me to beleive that the speaker has been neglected and has separated from society by becoming silent or retreating to places of physical security as a retreat. Those fortresses though in turn cause their own degree of imprisonment.
