Bright New Day

We awake
to catch the morning sunlight
breaking through netted windows
creating dappled shadows
across the bedroom floor.

With the nights tussles
still in her hair,
and stirring from her
velvet slumber
sleepily, she opens her brown eyes.

Gently a smile
caresses her lips
and wrinkles her nose,
and with a yawning stretch
bids me `good morning`.

We are the lovers
unashamed and without histories,
arising on this 
bright new day.
