Expansion and Contraction

Expansion and Contraction

A Poem by Emily

I am dancing on the border
Never leaping across
As if my lithe form is caged
Too protected

Still and organic, the space grows wild
Silently expanding beneath

Above, the skies pull at themselves
Stretching the cottony tendons of mist
Everyone is moving but me

It's not for lack of trying
I do not know the steps
But I can dance to the music in time

My entire sphere is graying
Aging with experience
Dying without withering
And I? Wrinkles crowd my eyes
Silvery wisps cling to my head
In my open mind, I have nothing
With my loss of words, there is a loss of time
The cage crumbles around my dusty bones.
