Your memory

Your memory

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

Look at the black roses being thrown down at us.
Like princes we carry your long coffin in the rain into the dark burial.
Where everyone rests forever where the rest of the family waits for us all.
Not a hero just a king to us all where your memory will carry on.

Your spirit will always sway with us like a true stallion in the field.
May it shine the darkness in the burial away every passing second for every great deed you brought into this world.
You carried our burdens in the family just to show that you cared...This way we will always remember you in your memory.

Looking up at the weeping people sprinkling their goodbyes into a rose.
The rain whipping us like if we were slaves still we carry your coffin with dignity and respect.
We will carry till the end of the road where the ground will let you rise as long as your memory will carry on.

The world could never take your heart from your soul.
I'm not ashamed of calling you my king you saved us from endless sins.
You took all our sad songs away replaced them with joy and glistening tears.
Your memory will carry on forever.
