My other side

My other side

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

The filthy liquid boils within me,
red as the blood curling screams I hear.
To see the world in black and white.
Something made me leave the light.

I shouldn't have to jump with joy.
But it gives my other side life.
It won't let me have a moment peace.
Instead of loosening it tightens the platinum grip.

These padded walls cannot keep whats within.
I would really love to break these holders.
Instead of talking to them all day.
They just want to force me to stay.

Behold my other side.
Oh sweet insanity whispers to the killer.
Turning my world different with a new fillet.
This narrow escape to reality blocked by me.

Doesn't anyone love the medical needles as much as us?
Where I feel like two they split me in half that way.
Separating whats left of my sane side for innocence.
But what if all else fails?

What if I don't let it?
Don't deny my howls of victory.
When I don't get to see the defender of my soul.
Step inside and never return when you try to pry me open.

This critical condition was explained with a straight jacket.
They pull me away when I start to taunt my own mind.
Sit alone with all the meaning that I can find.
I can't believe my other side has more meaning for a bind.

The reckoning is so long over due.
I only see things backward, still not allowed to find.
I would be saved when someone understands.
In this prison of my own design.
