Black and Brown

Black and Brown

A Poem by Archipelago
"

short and sweet

"

You kept your former lovers’ promise rings

On a chain around your neck;

You said it was a helpful reminder of

How often promises are kept

Somehow I got you to change them out

For a string of bottle caps that came

From all the laughing that we did that night

Once all the bottles had been drained

And everybody seemed so impressed

My friends asked me “How’d you relight

That moldy, stamped-out cigarette butt

And make it fresh and give it life?”

I told them “The best taste is the one

That no one else will ever try;

Everything in this world will burn

If you just keep it warm and dry”
