Rabbit Rabbit

Rabbit Rabbit

A Poem by Archipelago
"

catharsis on the first of the month, hoping for good luck

"

The twisting cool air and the spin of the fan

Woke me from dreams and pulled me up by my hands

I’m waxing serene and I opened the blinds

And saw the Lord’s name written in the lines

Of snow that blew in a jubilant dance

Subject and content with the random chance

That defined their lives and let them be

And through the massive collective I began to see me

It’s okay to stare at our prints on the path

The work of the wood and the stains on the glass

What’s little in life makes it worth all the while

Like the feeling of sheets or the writhing of wires

The tingle electric as your bodies entwine

The raised hairs on your neck as she strokes at your spine

I love the pain in my feet as I walk the edge of a knife

I was dead and then raised and it’s the start of my life

That wrench in my gut as I dive in the sky

Reminds me how it felt when life passed me by

I used to be driven around by my fear

Now I’m closing my eyes, letting go of the wheel

And I barely care if I survive

But the rush of the wind tells me I’m still alive

God’s got a plan that is coming to pass

So I turn up the music and give it more gas

And the gears are still grinding and calling my name

Just as the ecstatic candle still flickers its flame

So I shut off the lights and set little fires

To let all the colors just breathe for a while

And this breathless life will soon wear me out

But I want to know what everything’s all about

I want to turn winter to summer with a clap of my hands

Sojourn from school, book a gig for my band

The black of the night is the rainbow’s crush

The taint of the water becomes the paint on my brush

Wander tunnels with strangers and dive in the leaves

Freeze your lungs with the freshest air you can breathe

Play show and tell with your hearts in the depth of the night

Take out the trash and leave the old you behind

From ashes to anvils to fists in the air

The meaning of life is to play with her hair

Someone is coming so you duck and hide

But the pattern is breaking and you’re spilling outside

You’re filling the night with the sounds of a song

That nobody knows but you all strum along

Your heartbeat has been your soundtrack for weeks

So you need to jump in when you hear the walls speak

Every inch, every light, every color and thought

Can turn the world over and make the seeker the sought

The crypt and the cross and the witch’s ring

The light bulb breaks and the angels sing

They drown out the storm that’s tossing trees in the yard

As it’s rising and roaring, giving glory to God

And in the quiet we sing ourselves to sleep

But we’ll still be singing in our dreams

The snow melts and fades and becomes the moon

But the time of day and year is left up to you
