Crack the Mirror

Crack the Mirror

A Poem by Archipelago

The moon and the spoon and the smell of the snow

Flip the switch on the vacuum to suck up the blow

The icicle grows in the sun’s swelling glow

I need to get out of my mind for a while

I dove into the field and broke my back on the plow

Work sobers the sunlight but I’m living out loud

In the heat of the night and the haze of the now

Somebody crawled up inside and lit me on fire

The ache of the night hammers your bones in the cold

The voice on your phone tells you it’s not quiet at home

So let the boys down at Lloyd’s lighten some of the load

Tossing fresh fuel to the fading embers

The music underground sounds like heaven on high

Reminds you of highlighter colors and the lines in the sky

These are the times that define our young lives

At least the parts I manage to remember
