The Gift of Now

The Gift of Now

A Poem by drcornelius

Sitting at my window seat

Lap robe wrapped around my feet

Disconnected from the present

Staring blankly down the road

With all movement in suspension

Neither joy nor apprehension

Like a horse released from trappings

Finally resting from its load

Down that long and winding road

A new day’s dawn is being born

The night surrenders to the morn

The endless cycle rolling round

As even time itself has slowed

There never was a yesterday

No tomorrow held at bay

Only potent precious present

The gift of now rarely bestowed

And now I feel this moment slip

Sliding from my gentle grip

A gift never fully captured

Temporarily bestowed

While waiting in my warm abode

Staring blankly down the road
