you were...

you were...

A Poem by david r. lessard
"

love's consuming fire...

"

you were the love I thought would never end,

you were the dream I thought would never die;

but you were too rigid, and never did you bend,

and when I left you, I often wondered why.

you were the laughter, I'd always hoped to hear,

you were the happiness, I'd always hoped to hold;

but somewhere along the way you lost your cheer,

and the love that burned so hot, was growing cold.

you were the loveliness, I wanted from the start,

you were the beauty, I thought would never be;

but then you changed and slowly broke my heart,

and I had no other choice my love, but to flee.

you were the hope, the dream, the wild desire,

and you became, just another angel in disguise;

but your anger and your curses put out the fire,

and I was swept aside by all your churlish lies.

you were the love I thought would always be,

you were the one that kept my dreams aglow;

was love so blind, that I couldn't hear or see?

if it was, then the reasons I will never know
